An electric car charger is not a socket on a wall. It is a continuous load drawing its rated current for hours at a time, usually overnight and usually unattended, which is why it needs its own circuit, its own protection and an earthing arrangement that has been checked rather than assumed. Ebhar Desert installs charging points as an electrical job in its own right: the supply is assessed first, the circuit is sized for the load it will actually carry, and the installation is tested and certified before it is handed over.

What the Service Covers

  • Site survey and electrical load assessment before any quotation is issued
  • Dedicated circuit run from the distribution board to the charging position
  • Cable sized for the continuous load, with containment and mechanical protection
  • Residual current protection of the type the charger manufacturer specifies
  • Wall-mounted and pedestal-mounted charge points, single and dual socket
  • Outdoor-rated enclosures and weatherproof glanding for exposed positions
  • Earthing and bonding checks, including protection against a lost supply neutral
  • Single-phase units around 7 kW and three-phase units at 11 kW or 22 kW
  • Charge point arrays for building car parks, with bay allocation and load sharing
  • Public and commercial charging positions, including pedestal units on hardstanding
  • Trenching, ducting and reinstatement where the charge point sits away from the board
  • Coordination with the distribution company and the relevant authority for positions outside the property boundary
  • Testing, commissioning against your vehicle, and a written certificate at handover

How We Work

  1. 01

    Site survey

We measure the cable route, check the board for a spare way and assess what the existing supply can carry, so the quotation reflects your property rather than a standard price.

  2. 02

    Written proposal

An itemised quotation covering the unit, the circuit, containment, protection and commissioning — including any supply upgrade, stated before the work starts rather than discovered during it.

  3. 03

    Installation

The circuit is run and protected, the charge point is mounted and glanded for the position it sits in, and the earthing arrangement is verified rather than assumed.

  4. 04

    Testing and handover

The installation is tested, the charger is commissioned against your vehicle, and you receive the test results, the certificate and the operating guidance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need my distribution board upgraded to fit a charger?

Often not. A single-phase charger of around 7 kW needs one spare way and enough headroom on the existing supply, and many villas have both. Where the supply genuinely cannot carry the additional load we say so at the survey, before you have committed to anything, and set out what the upgrade involves.

How long does an installation take?

Most villa installations are completed in a single day once the unit is on site. A long cable route, trenching across a driveway, or a supply upgrade adds time — and where that applies we put it in the written proposal rather than raising it on the day.

Can you install a charger I have already bought?

Yes. We install customer-supplied units on the same terms as ones we supply, provided the model suits your supply and arrives with its manufacturer documentation. The circuit, the protection and the testing are certified either way, and the workmanship guarantee covers our installation of it.
